    service caps

    The last 7 a/c units I worked on all had loose service caps and you could see the oil where they had been leaking. Why do they get loose so often?

    because the idiots that installed the unit never tightened them.

    this is the #1 place i find leaks on units. not on any of my installs though so i know they don't loosen up by themselves.

    get the old school style flare caps you have to tighten beyond hand tight w/ a wrench. if it's loose after that somebody's diicken around.

    I didn't realize that this was such a big problem.

    I'm going to check my service caps today. I may have plastic caps (Goodman condenser), but I don't remember.
