    Short Cycling continued

Well the techs came out today and tried to adjust the stat. They were unable to get it to do what their tech support said it would do. I'm glad they were there when the system came on for 6 minutes then went off for 20 on for 5 off for 15. Although it's not to hot today maybe 87-89 degrees and we have it set for 78 degrees in the house. They are not sure what to do. They are going to go back and look at the load for the house. They said that they did a heat load for the house. Does that mean they didn't do a cooling load? I spoke with a neighbor last night close to the same house design same unit and same problem short cycling. He has lived there since november and said the heat works great in the house no shoty cycling in the winter. Is it possible to have a 3 ton ac unit with a 4 ton gas furnace? They said to give them a couple of days to figure this out and talk to their reps and see what they can come up with. They also said they would fix this problem. What do you guys think can be done to fix the problem?

The '4 ton' refers to the upper capacity of the blower. In all probablity, it can be set to deliver '3 tons (1200 CFM) of air for cooling.

They have already lowerd the fan speed down. Could you have a 3 ton ac system with a 4 ton furnace? Is that possible?

    yes.

A furnace with a 4 ton drive can usually have as small as a 2.5 ton A/C.

Thanks for the info beenthere. So they will be able to put a 3 ton in if needed. They feel upgrading the stat would possibly do the trick but they wanted to go back and check everything before they just started messing with stuff. Will any duct work have to be redone?

Doubtful. Most duct systems are undersized for the A/C.
So even though they installed a 4 ton, and supposedly sized the duct for 4 tons, its probabaly alittle undesized. With a 3 ton, it should be quieter. They may have to damper down some supplies, but thats about it.
