A Relay Blown?

I have a 15 year old unit - 1/2 ton ac.

in 2006 the coils developed a leak and it was replaced with a 3/4 ton coil

came home tonight and the breaker had tripped

reseting the breaker, the compresser does not run - the fan does - and the breaker does not trip.

I am thinking that the relay(?) blew and power cannot get to the compressor.

I am also thinking that it should be a fairley easy fix.

It could be several things, you should call your HVAC contractor in the morning and have them take a look at it.

I could, butthat is taking the easy way out.

besides, if everyone did that we wouldn't need forums to discuss how to fix the problems we encounter.

If someone else has an idea - here is some more info...

Also I hear a solid "click" when the inside switch is turned to cool on the thermostat.

The outside compressor fan rotates freely.

If there is anyone out there who has something more than "call the repair guy" LOL

Must be a small house. Only had a ½ ton coil at first. Then they put in a ¾ ton coil. Hmmm.
