If you don't know, then don't do. If you don't know and still do, then be prepared to pay someone else a lot to undo what you did and then do it right.
If you do know, then do. But do it right. Otherwise, you may not be doing it long.

This has been beat to death. Maybe they should close this thread. Then we can laugh at something else.

Whoa doggy.......I'm in the 2nd largest banking capital of the US....let's not get carried away....they aren't all lenders.
Do you realize this is the same senseless crap that I have to endure as a tech rep?
I want to reach through the phone and smack 'em.
Here...I have the ban button. Too bad the other moderators are so stinkin' nice.
Oh and Marge...in some states, you would be facing a court date for refusing to pay for services. Not a wise choice. You're no better than a common thief.
Perhaps you should have read the instructions before calling.
I'm sure ther will be more fun, these threads seem to come through on a regular basis. They're more fun on the weekends (I'm allowed to stay up later)
I've met some thick headed people before ,but this one ...
In Marge's defense think I know what happened here. As contractors we often miss the boat in explaining what exactly happened that resulted in the need for a repair. Alot of the time, the homeowner isn't interested in all of the details regarding how the part failed. Last week when I found a spider in a contactor, all I really explained to the homeowner was "a spider got into the contactor".
When ants were to blame for the failed contactor, Marge obviously wasn't educated as to how it happened. Since she wasn't educated on the matter, she assumed that a preventative maintenance check would probably would have at least shown some signs of an ant problem.
The reality is a single ant, even just it's tiny legs, can prevent contacts from closing. The ant just needs to be at the right place at the wrong time. If she would have seen the contactor with the ant, I'm sure there would be less of an issue here.
In the contractor's defense, most homeowners really don't enjoy hearing all of the details about what went wrong. If I've repaired a piece of equipment more than once, the homeowner often times does not remember what part I replaced, much less why it needed to be replaced. HVAC is just not that interesting to the general public. So it's no suprise Marge's results from asking 20 random people if they've ever heard of ants affecting an air conditioner.
Creating a flyer with a list of potential hazards to watch out for, or attempt to prevent is a good idea. It certainly can't hurt. Most homeowners will not give it a second look, but it may help eliminate the anger and confusion that has just happened here.

hit a little close to home did i ??
i have been dealing with bugs getting into units and causing problems for close to 40 years.
i have also dealt with customers like you who want to blame everyone but themselves for their own problems.
go ahead and contact Trane, let us know how you make out.
You can't defend her. After about 120 or so replies , this condition was explained in detail. Yet M still can't/won't get with the program. Instead of trolling us ,she should be out taking care of HER ant problem. Wouldn't you think?
If she emailed them ,I 'm willing to bet you a dollar, that it was deleted immediately after being read . Think if you were reading the same things she's posted here. What would you do? You'd think , this isn't real. Can't be . Hit the delete button . At least that's what I'd do.
Ants.The End. (I hope)
Her physician should have warned her about the possibility of getting a bug up her a**.
I would like to add to my list:
Kennedey's
Clinton's
Obamah's

All this talk about ants in AC, got me paranoid, so when I got home tonight I went out back to check on my Carrier, and I could hear whispering, I looked around back of the AC and there was bunch of ants sitting around a table, looked like they where drinking beer. The one ant said, did you hear what happen to Fred tonight, the other said no what? He was drunk again and wondered into the lady next door AC and got himself squished in the contactor.
