So I have a well (being tested tomorrow for geo capacity) and am likely going geo if the well can support 5t. pretty sure i am ok for 5t cause its 500ft deep, but has low production.
What i think i want is water to water to hydro-air using the existing oil as backup /supplemental heat.
One reason I like this a lot is I can use 5t capacity to provide 99% of my heating. Well respected geo specialist is recommending 4t and 3t water to air geothermal units.
load calc shows 95kbtuh (7.5t) at 10f design temp (boston ma area)
binned temp data shows about 120 hours a year above 5t heating rate.
calculation shows i would burn about 15 gallons of oil per year with 5t pump.
Problem is adding a second geo to air handler and well rehab for capacity will dramatically increase system cost to save $50-$60/ year. Is this a special kind of insanity to pay this or am I missing something important?
