I'll bite. Whats a boot rail. Probably called somthing different here.
everyone hates removing existing boot rails...does anyone have any good tips or tricks for cutting an existing boot rail?

Its a good Life!
I have better luck just ripping the boot out of the rails. Makes me feel a little better when I do it!
Also, rock the boot back and forth to raise the rail to slide snips under them to cut. Kinda tough on brittle sheetrock.
thats how we do them now....just always looking for a better mouse trap
We call them 2x4s here

If you didn't do it right the first time it probably makes sense that your here asking the right way to do it now
Dremel with the most oversized cutting wheel that will work with it.
I thought about that but would probably work best cutting it from the sheetrock side and touch up the drywall afterwards. some boots can be in really tight spots
It gets confusing for some guys here also because that is the nice big can of beer that they grab on the way home, a 2x4
Why do you need to remove them, I dont get it?
I find alot of houses with undersized ducts which means the boots are undersized as well so the only solution is to change them out. This house had a 4 ton system with a 3 ton duct system on it, very common situation around here. Builders hire the lowballers and lowballers cut way too many corners.
So do you have to change the pipe out to? I am assuming they probably run alot of 6" pipe. We run a majority of 7" and 8" in new construction. 6" maybe in bathrooms and walk in closets. Alot of 4x12 and 6x12 boots. Are these 4x10 boots that you are ripping out?
I change the boot because I'm changing the duct size, I replace with the largest boot that I can use for that area (means less noise and friction)
Consider Airtech products Model MV-4 AND MV-360. Make a retrofit a snap
