Trane extended warranty recommended?

Last year we had a new Trane furnace, AC, and air cleaner installed in our home. The year anniversary is approaching and we are considering purchasing an extended warranty. Are extended warranties recommended for HVAC systems? Thanks for your comments and suggestions. --tgerd

Depends on how much you value your system and your estimate of the quality of the install. If properly installed and regularly maintained, it should operate troublefree for many years. If however you simply can't live without it for even a day . . .

Call now to see if you can still get the extended warranty.
I think some companies had a 6 month limit to get it.

i think its a good idea to get an extended warranty. if you look a the cost of parts like a blower motor, control board, or compressor just one of those would almost pay for the warranty. most warranties give you about 10 years so look for that. also warranties dont have a hard cost so look for a competitive price.

you have a furnace, ac and air cleaner so if the whole system can be covered and the price is reasonable (we cant post prices here) then i think its a no brainer. i bought the extended 10 year parts/labour warranty for my furnace. the nice thing about it is that its transferable unlike some other warranties which cant be transfered to the new owners if you move. being transferable it adds value to the house. that in itself pays for it.

If you buy the warranty now, it will be based on the install date. So you may only have aprox 9 years of warranty. Still a great idea though.

If you get one, get the higher tier warranty and if in a coastal area get the Seacoast option.

If you purchase the warranty and the unit has a parts failure, Trane will tell the HVAC service contractor exactly how much Trane will pay the contractor for the warranty repair. However, if you don't buy the warranty and your Trane HVAC unit has a parts failure, Trane does not tell him anything. Instead, the HVAC contractor gets to bend you over and tell YOU how much he' is going to charge you!

Thanks for all the valuable comments. We decided to go ahead with the warranty. The problem is our contractor won't return our calls or emails. Does the warranty have to be purchased from the contractor who did the install? Or can we purchase it from another authorized Trane installer? Thanks. -tgerd

you should be able to use any trane dealer, check the yellow page and ask

It can be purchased from any Trane dealer. Prices may vary from dealer to dealer also.

Which Trane system do you have.
The XLi series has a 10 year parts warranty on everything when installed as a system, and a 2 year labor warranty.
