Entire change-outs? Including labor AND parts?

If that is the case it could be any number of things
    • Difference in overhead
    • Difference in direct labor costs
    • Difference in exactly what work is being done
      • Contactor change out
      • Filter change
      • Oil acid test
      • Diagnosis on why the compressor failed
If this is a national chain, I wouldn't put it past another contractor to cut his own throat and lose money in order to land a chain of stores

If you've been consistent with your billing practices don't worry about it. There is always a contractor willing to go belly up in order to pick up dollar volume.

Depending on the size of the national chain, they can buy direct...several of the larger grocery store chains in our area and all the wal-marts buy all of their equipment direct...maybe the cutthroat price is just to install one that they bought.

most of the national chains have acess to wholesale prices. they will dangle someone elses price to get yours lower every time. if you didn't do good work and your price was too high, you just wouldn't hear from them again. keep doing your job. they all know everything is sky high right now including labor! if they can find some one who will lower their price, congratulate them on such a rare find. none of what we do for a living is going to go down in the forseeable future.

If they can talk to me about the quotes - they can send me a copy

If they won't - the other "quote" is just them blowing smoke.

You said "the other quotes are $1000. less". Can you make that into a percentage for me? Is the bid range closer $3000. or closer to say; $50,000. ?

Hey, we can't help it if they don't charge them enough!

Once I was on a upper level of a mall roof and watched a change-out wizard in action on the lower level. From the time his feet hit the roof till he was back on the ladder it was done in a 1/2 hour. No bolts, I don't think he put the feet on the comp. and the old one was left on the roof.
    Maybe it's the same co.?
