I guess it's both, I enter my # and my name comes up on the screen, I then place my hand on the hand reader and that's how I punch in/out.
My # is 190

If someone retires, is his number retired also. Or could a new employee get it.
If a new employee could get it, that number doesn't mean much.

Looks like you have seniority, your steward will know for sure.
