    Does ultrasite run on Linux?
.... though to be honest I don't know if it runs on Vista.
I'm sure there's a lot of older control software that's not supported by Vista

Yes but why would you? Having said that I'm writing this on an old laptop running 98se. I've got 4 different communication programs running on it for the local supermarkets.

Does anyone use Linux for working on control systems? We have a few lower end laptops in my office that we were thinking about putting Linux on with some kind of Windows emulator like Wine.

    Thanks

A bunch called Phasefail supply supermarkets with computers with their pressnet communication software running on Red Hat. It interfaces with their prescon control system. The pressnet client is a free download and is written in Java so I think it's cross platform. I could be wrong about that though.

    A Stay Of Execution

Dell and some other PC manufacturers are planning on selling computers with XP for the foreseeable future.

    re: Vista
Works fine on my home system. Works great on the three or four laptops I've seen. Unfortunately my CCN service tool no workie on Vista. A few other important proggies are busted too. Must have XP until Carrier, Trane, and a few others get off their a##e#.
