Hi ,
We recently came across a new client .
He have 4 30 hxc chiller ,two of them we're supposed to have brine option..
Looking at the model number the two last letter are AA not LA.
LA stand for brine option
The compressor discharge superheat is high between 40 -70 F
And the system look like is missing some gas.
What is the brine option?
Is it field modifiable ..i.e: orifice size in EXV?

My main concern ain't the programming.
We've modified the chiller to run on medium brine safety and run to lower temp.
The problem is glycol ain't the same as water for heat exchange.
Gpm is ok vs design pressure drop value.But the discharge superheat is around 40 to 70 F ,which is high.
Discharge superheat target is 22 F.
I wouldn't worry about the discharge supperheat too much. Just make sure the EXV is below 60%. The brine option includes solenoid valves in the liquid lines and depending on the size smaller orfices in the EXV. There are wires in the wiring harnes that can be used to to control the liquid line valves, but may actually be faster to run your own. The orfices you will have to get from Carrier. Sorry, I don't work for them anymore so I can't get the numbers. Good luck.

The unit can be field modified what is your designed leaving water temperature ?
The chiller as been designed for 33.5 F
Oh. I assume you running high superheat too. I believe somebody had asked what the EXV % POSITION IS? I'm not trying to take over your thread just trying to wrap my head around it

This compressor is sitting on the barrel so basically there's no superheat that can be taken.
The exv are at 100 and the condensor seem to be empty of gas as sight glass is bubbling.
Lirunaway as said earlier in the thread that sometime carrier adding a smaller orifice in the exv probably to prevent shortage of gas I the evap.

Converted a 30GX air cooled outdoor unit to Ice Rink duty. Had to replace expansion valve orifices on electronic EXV housed in economize also selection for brine only allowed unit to go to 18 degrees (HXC will do -0 if selection is done properly). Had to put resistors in to have 18 degrees = 8 degrees. However the major issue was GPM through evaporator unit required 500 GPM for 44 deg fresh water for glycol with a -10 rating GPM I was told I needed 1000 GPM. Well I had a little over 500. Customer and IceRink package distributor refused to address problem. Blamed issue on Carrier Chiller I was running 14 degree leaving brine with a -10 evaporate temp. A true cluster **** when a customer buys a third party assembly and manufacturer of one piece of equipment is expected to make it right and do on "Warranty"
