Lennox Pure Air Installation
Please review this photo of Pure Air install and tell what you see wrong, if anything.

install looks good from what i can see.
in other post you mentioned extension cord through ceiling, thats a big no no.
can't see if there is any overflow switch in the pan with no drain on it.......
light through the clear silicone should not be a problem.

Affirmative on the extension chord.
Something tells me that is not exactly "to code".
Here is a photo.
The extension chord is supplying power for the Pure Air PCO-020-028 only.
I assume the only electric demand is the UV lamps.
I thought it was a little odd that they took that route, but I guess they were trying to save time/money.
What should they have done instead?
Other than being a little sloppy, what is the risk of taking the extension cord option?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

There is an overflow switch.
However, the overflow drain pan does not have a drain that would prevent the drain pain itself from overflowing if the overflow switch failed.
The tech said that I should never have a problem with a clogged drain since I have the Pure Air UV lights working for me.
Let's just hope that a family of lizards or other of God's creatures don't decide to take up residence in my drain line, right?

I wasn't so much concerned about UV light coming through silicone seal, I was more concerned about the method used to connect the Pure Air to the air handler. The dimensions of the Pure Air PCO-020-028 unit do not match the dimensions of the Lennox CBX32MV-60 air handler. In most installations, you would see a tapered duct fashioned to up-convert from the a/h to the Pure Air. Barring a relocation of either the supply or return plenums, the premium Lennox dealer installers opted for a direct connection.
My overall concern with the installation of the Pure Air unit is one of air flow containment. I want the air coming from the returns in my home to be filtered, not the air in my garage. I took the face plate off of the Pure Air and it does not appear to be sealed sufficiently enough to prevent garage air from being sucked in.
Here is a photo that has the inside of the face place super-imposed.
I appreciate your analytical comments.
P.S.
When I had the face plate off taking the photo, I noticed that the inner metal face was hot.
So, if any one was wondering if the UV bulbs were hot or cold, now you know.
I will have to look at the specs to see how much electricity this unit consumes in a 24 hour period.
I'm still skeptical about the UV lamps having to be on 24x7.
It would have seemed better to have them switch ON when the a/h fan started and then perhaps an additional 10 minutes after the fan stopped. On mild temp days, there could be hours between system cycles, yet the Pure Air UV bulbs remain operational.
Seems like overkill (no pun intended).
Is there a way to program the Elite X4147 stat to go into CIRC mode if there has been no a/h activity for a specified time period?
Nah, I didn't think so.Last edited by USFbobFL; 04-02-2008 at 06:31 AM. Reason: add comment about Pure Air operating temps

Do these number look good to you all?

It looks like the tech could have used some "white-out" with the SA (supply air) reading and the delta-T.

UV should be on 24/7.
If cycled on and off several times a day, could short bulb life.

Look like the delta-T is a little high- should be around 15-20. sub cool looks like its close to be low 10-15 good sub-cooling temp.

The filter housing should have been fitted properly, then screwed in properly. Sealed with metal taped around both sieds of the connecting plenum and unit, and finally mastic around all joints to finish help make it as air tight as possible. shouldn't use silicone to seal it. U/V lights needs to operate 24/7 thats how they were to designed to work. I never use a plug or switch, always hard wire.
