    York start-up

I'm working on a job that has a new York YCIV chiller going in. It's suppose to have a LON interface. The question is, who'll do the start-up, a York guy because they're the chiller people but can't do controls (as explained to me), or a JCI guy because they're the control people and can do chillers (as explained to me).

General opinion on-site is it will be the JCI guy. The local branch apparently indicated the chiller start-up isn't that difficult, the controls are. The units are ready to go when they show up, and they have a solid warranty. For real?

The lon interface allows the controls guy to "see" the panel from the front end. Thi doesnt necessarily mean that the controls guy is ready to start a chiller. I believe right now the old York branches are under the JCI banner, but are pretty much just getting started with the integration. I would bet York hasnt given up start up just yet.....

A chiller ready to go from the factory........maybe but I would be hesitant to push go until the York tech goes over it and checks the install, phasing, safties etc. Call me old fashioned.

The York interface you speak of will either be a MicroGateway or the new version called an E-Link. Both have a QuickStart setup that has to be perfomed and then should start talking to your third party..via Lon. I would guess this will be done by a controls tech.

If it were me and the control guy showed up for startup. I would escort him back to his truck. And tell him to have a nice day somewhere else.

I thought/hear, from 'the street', the JCI Mechs are now the Tech-Mechs (chillers and controls) and they put the York Mechs on the smaller RTU stuff. Is this not what others hear?

Unhappy We all feel for ya...

We have this "integrator" guy in the Seattle area who has a different factory jacket for each job depending on what kind of equipment there is. He's not so popular, except with the OEM factory rep he contracts to.

Have a look see at who is controlling the pumps and the tower. Have them commission their stuff so it works, and then call the chiller guy for a start up.
Then pay attention to how you valves are modulating. Start up PID's are almost always too tight. Nobody's chiller likes slam-bam control valves.

If you're lucky, the chiller control package will run the pumps and tower, with the house DDC just giving a giddy-up-go signal.

Thanks, most of you, for your insights. This was just job-site chatter. I don't have a dog in this fight. I'll just be reading the LON.

    You're the man.

A very insightful, articulate, well thought out response. I'm sure it helped NINAX out tremendously.
