Referral for Covington, la N of new orleans

We are looking to replace our whole unit. The one now in 13 years old and wasn't well maintained by the previous owners and the coils have rust and looks to be mold growing in the fins.

we are looking to replace it with an vs heat pump unit.

I did read this one before i posted. what am i looking for in it that thread. We have been in this house for a year now. first of summer last year the unit inside kept freezing up so i called and had a house call they said b/c of the rust and growth (maybe mold) it would just be better to replace it than fix it. It never did freeze up again last summer and we have been running it now latley with no problems but the electric bill. last summer we where at about 300-350 month i think it was .11 kwh then. the house is 1600sf single story.

We are at the point we can do a va streamline refi for a lower rate and able to take money out but only for energy effecent upgrade. So i figured this was the time to do it before there are more problems and i keep given all this money to cleco.

also right now the outside unit is a goodman ck36-1b can anyone tell me what the tonage is? i googled it but couldn't find it.

ok the first person came out. didn't do the J test. Right now we have a 3 ton 9 seer goodman. I couldn't tell really how he was pricing this everything he gave me was preprinted with prices which doesn't make sense b/c he didn't even know it was a 3 ton we had.

the system with veriable speed 15 seer was $$$$$ and the 13 seer was $$$$ with no veriable speed. Which all seems pretty high to me.

anyway i'll be calling someone else for another quote to compare. I'm all for a good install and will pay just making sure i'm not paying too much.

We are also on the Northshore.

I would recommend that you give Albers a call for an estimate. They do a lot of work in Covington, Madisonville, Mandeville... They replaced two complete systems for us (up and down) last fall. Did a nice job and our bills during this past winter were unbelievably low. We went from heating with heat strips to heat pump ---which they talked us into.

I was able to leave the house warm all during those cold snaps and never had to crank down the thermostat to save the bill . I did a comparison and our bills were 60% lower than the average winter bills for the past 4 years.

I urge you to consider a heat pump for this cllimate...SERIOUSLY! The difference between 13 seer and 14 seer won't do as much for you as the difference between straight heat strips and a heat pump.

BTW....this was the first and only company that did a Manual J out of several quotes.
