    Acupuncture (Long But True)

Back in 2000 my father was ran over by a forklift, TWICE. Now when I say twice I don’t mean on two separate occasions. He was walking back to his truck which was being unloaded. The forklift driver without looking backed right over my dad, only realizing what he had done after the fact. Thinking he was still on top of him, the idiot pulled forward, thus running over him again. The lift crushed both his feet, broke his legs, hip, wrist, and tweaked his back. After three years of reconstructive surgery as well as physical therapy my father was able to walk again with the aid of a cane. . Ever since, he could barely walk, sitting for long periods of time was unheard of. Sure, his doctors gave him all kinds of pain medications. However, he became addicted after a few months and quit taking them. So my father had been forced to endure this pain for the rest of his life. He even once mentioned popping a whole bottle of pain killers and chasing them with a bottle of vodka. Knowing he was only joking but just that look of pain in his eyes every time he moved, I could understand why.
Well on October 12th 2007, I made my weekly call only to have my mother answer the phone. We had our normal how you doing conversation, life is good blah blah blah. After a few minutes I asked my mom, “is dad home?” She replied, yes he is out digging in the garden. Thinking my mom lost it and is hallucinating, I sad, “mom, seriously, where’s dad?” She said, “I told you, he is out digging in the garden.” Right then I heard my dad in the back ground. I jokingly asked my mom to put down the bottle and put dad on the phone. I waited for a second, and my father picks up the phone. I said “dad, I think it’s time we have mom committed”, he asks “why?” I said “she has this strange delusion that you were working in the garden.” He kind of laughed and said “son, it’s true; I had my first acupuncture treatment this morning and have not felt any pain since.” He went on and on about how great he feels and how much happier he is. The whole time I am thinking bull s#$t. Well a week later I went to go visit them and sure enough he was walking like a normal person. Even during the holidays I went with him to go buy a Christmas tree, and rather than park in the handicap section, he parked way on the other side of the lot just so he can run to the entrance. I do have to admit it feels great to see my father being able to do the things he once did before the accident. I guess the reason I am sharing this story is to find out if anyone else has had or known somebody to have had acupuncture and what was the end result?
