In retrospect I agree that this wasn't a good place for this sort of discussion. Some good points were made in that regard.

I posted this in the resi forum to give the non-hvac technical people a chance at it as well.

Although a discussion of this type won't help a DIYer fix his own system.
The possible difference on opinion of what will or won't happen, may have the effect of having home owners question the compency of the tech while he's their.

Personally, I don't care if a customer has question while I'm there.
But some techs get rattled.

I agree with beenthere. There are assumptions in the OP that need to be re-examined, but this section of h-talk is not the best place to do so.
