Manufacturers advertise,VS motor costs no more to run then a 40-60 watt light bulb .Well a small system at .2" ESP ,is the only way to get close.

You need to look closely at the operating cost of VS at higher static,of course not so high that the don't deliver the required air flow,or cause other issues.

Higher static with VS is part of why the don't run at the SEER or EER rating.

Also, any suggestions would be welcome as well. I'm in the Northeast, and the heating is a separate gas baseboard system. The house is a ranch, the c/a will be used for the main floor which is about 1600 sq ft.

    The systems quoted are:
    Bryant 3 ton 15 SEER model 165ANA036 R410-A with a Bryant FV4?003 a/h
    Amana 2 1/2 ton 14 SEER model ASX14030 with an Amana/Goodman AEPF3036 a/h

Any thoughts are most appreciated. TIA
The Bryant system is 35,000 btu cooling, 15.5 SEER, 13.5 EER.
The Amana (Goodman) is 28,000 btu cooling, 15 SEER, 12 EER.

Note that the Amana is ARI-rated with a thermostatic expansion valve in the air handler which is optional. The air handler comes with a piston flowrater metering device as standard issue.

The 13.5 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) on the Bryant is outstanding.

    Good luck.

    Amana vs Bryant

One other question since I'm woefully uneducated about this -
    • Complete duct system installed in the attic with main trunk line being galvanized sheet metal wrapped in an R-8 insulation with branch runs being insulated flex duct R-8 rated

    Is this normal, good, not-so-good?

    TIA

Sounds pretty good to me from the brief description given.

No offense but what does this have to do with a/c? Are you thinking Hydro-air??
We only want to do it, if we can do it right.
