simple; physical size question??
I have a trane xl16i and it is very large. a 3ton if i remember correctly. why are some other units i see so much smaller. like my next door neighbours ruud unit???

coil area required for higher efficiency for one thing.

Becuse if it was as small as you neighbours, you'd think you paid too much for it.

It is a manufacturing thing. This way different brand units will not all look rectangular or square or round. Depending on SEER rating they may have smaller coil surface compared to a larger one.

Yes, higher SEER units usually physically larger.

Most A-S/Trane units are very large, I think the Spine Fin coil has to do with that. The old clunker recip is big which doesn't help sizing or weight.
But efficiency does have a lot to do with it. A 16 SEER Ruud is good sized too!
