    I have tested it at 500 fpm and the pressure drop is 0.26"wg.

    Your point is the pressure drop increases as the velocity increases. Which is correct. However, the ratio of the difference between the pressure drop of different filters remains approximately the same. In other words the speed would be higher and the pressure drop would be proportionately higher for his fiberglass filter and the 4" MERV 12 filter as well.

    I'm not sysing his 4" now makes everything ok.
    Just that it does have a lower starting drop. It could load up fast enough that he has to change it 4 times a year.

    Those 600's load up in a week on many systems, and could have caused much of his excess fuel use.
