Thread: HVAC decision

    Hmm HVAC decision

My heat exchanger is badly cracked and I now have quotes for 2 different new furnaces. One is a Bryant 340aav024060 92% efficiency 60,000 btu, and the other is for an American standard Freedom 90 aux2b060 two-stage gas furnace., also 60,000 btu. Both are appropriate for the size of the house and comparable in price. Which is the best one to go with?

Go with the 2-stage furnace every time...you'll see lower operating costs.

Oh, if you don't currently have an electronic thermostat, get a price from the installing contractor on a 2-stage heating thermostat to take full advantage of the furnace. If you already have an electronic thermostat, ask the installer to make sure they set up the controls for time delayed staging.

The American Std model plus I suggest you consider upgrading to the var speed blower model.

Get a price on a Carrier 2 stage also, if the one you posted isn't 2 stage.
Also, ask each contractor if they are including a 2 stage thermostat.
If they tell youo you don't need one. Keep looking for contractors.

The Freedom 95 with variable speed isn't much more than the 2 stage model and sure worth it in comfort WITH A 2 STAGE STAT!!!
