    Warm air duct

Hello there. I have an older forced air wood furnace located in the basment that works great. What is the minimal clearance needed between the main warm air duct and the upper main floor? Right now it's attached to the floor joists with straps and believe it is original installation back in 1978. Thanks.

You will have to check with your local codes and with the manufacturers instructions. Most that I have seen need 2-3 inches from the top of the supply plenum and first few feet of duct. Make sure the venting has proper clearances or shielding also. It can be 18" or more on some models. They can get HOT!!
Where are you? Are you done yet? I got ONE more call for you.....
