Need second opinion in NoVA area
Could anyone recommend someone to install central air (or possibly heat pump) as well as ductwork (none existing currently) into our 1937 Cape Cod home in Arlington VA? We currently have radiant heat (hydronic). We have issues with insulation/air infiltration at the kneewall in the second floor finished attic. However, we do not intend to run ductwork to the second floor so I'm not sure if that is relevant. We will likely use a window unit up there for the timebeing and then have a duct-free split unit installed.
My priorities are
Properly sized. Properly Installed. Properly ducted.
Price is of course important, but secondary to the above.
I have talked to four contractors thus far and am only somewhat comfortable with one of them. I THINK they will do a good install, but still have some reservations. I would like to speak to at least one other knowledgable person before I decide.
Thanks
Chris

Topher, I just re read the site rules and I don't think there is a rule against posting this kind of info so here goes.......
IMHO two companies that stand out are Arlington heating and Krafft service co.(Krafft is in Alexandria)
Both are family owned honest and very professional companies that have been in business in the DC area for many many years. I have never worked for either of these companies but I know some guys that work there. In my 24 years in the business in the DC area I have heard good things about these outfits time and time again. Of course there are many other great contractors in the area but those outfits are the ones I have personal knowledge of.
Good Luck,
Fincomber
PS I will submit this post for review by the MOD squad just to make sure it is not a violation of the site rules.

Replace Furnace and AC...
Hi...
I also live in NoVA (Herndon, VA, 20170) and my house is now 14 years old. The heat and ac are original (gas furnace, central air, York equipment). Not sure of the size, but it's a small single-family home (about 3000sq finished ft), 3 levels. Equipment is in mostly-finished basement. Seems like a typical setup.
I'm looking for a good contractor to replace both systems with something simple/reliable and good value (price). Don't need the "dream system", but not necessarily the cheapest either. Probably will move in the next 5 years.
Check my profile for an email address.
Thanks,
Paul
