Whats burning Pri or Sec
hey all i recently got a call for no cool. when i arrived i was told that they had a power outage and ac broke. so i found a bad transformer in the a/h and bad contactor coil in the condensing unit. i replaced them and they worked until the next outage. so i replaced just the trans this time and all is good.... my question is there a surge protector that will prevent this from happening i have tried putting a 3a fuse inline but it does not help.

Where did you put the fuse?
Primary and dumbly put fuse on secondary
And it happens when it's off they hardly run the thing
Would a bad contactor effect the line side? It should have taken out the load side.
Yes and I replaced once and but not the second time
Are they having problems with anything else in the house after power issue? One solution is to have them install surge in panel for entire house.
Yes the last time it blew more things. Can I find protection for just furnace?
Climate01 is right just do the whole house at the panel if other things are being effected. Really not that pricey. Many insurance companies are insisting they are installed to cover electronics (read the really small stuff at the bottom lol). We had a major issue this last winter with boards blowing up!
thankyou so much i was looking into the supco model and wiring direct to the panel sounds pretty good to me i planned on buying the supco tomorrow but i will research other brands. again thank you all
Well i put the supco surge protector in the panel and ran the generator and it worked great. Just to bad it don't protect the whole house.
