...hurting my eyes....giant a/c units everywhere...help me...
I just threw up in my mouth
...hurting my eyes....giant a/c units everywhere...help me...
Nah... I did that before I opened up the unit
I have no freaking idea why the pics are so big
I know it's annoying scrolling down
Ah...it's just the size that your camera took them as, so that's what you uploaded. The pictures you posted are 2 to 3 Mbytes in size.
For future reference, if you reduce your photo size to around 250 kbytes, they'll fit better. I use the Windows Paint program to do that since I'm not to adept to using anything else. Whatever size it shows up in the Windows Paint program panel when you first open it is about how it will appear here.
I think Photobucket also lets you edit photos before posting them, so that's an option as well and probably easier.
Wow, counterfeit ac unit????!!!! That's newsworthy. Literally. I'd call the media
I don't see it either
Maybe not counterfiet, just gray market product imported, meant for another country. Those models are not and never have been, USA matchups.
I ran into a gray market unit years ago, it had a floor mount evap long before they were available in the US. Couldn't get parts for it, told the owner he had to find his own parts. Board was bad.
How did you determine that? I don't work on these much, but would like to know how to spit a fake
I work for Mitsubishi Electric Cooling and Heating in the NYC area. There is a person installing counterfeit Mitsubishi units around here that look exactly like the one in the pictures. I have run across several in the past few years. This is not a "grey " market unit. It is counterfeit. Any information about the installing contractor that you could give me would be helpful. He seems to dissappear after installations. I would like to forward this information to our legal dept.
Thats what I told the customer but try to get new units from mitsubishi 1st.
From what I see, the differences are subtle for those of us that don't or rarely work on Mitsubishi. Out of everyone that posted comments, only Lahr picked up on it.
After keviekev70 revealed the fact that it's a counterfeit, I pulled some pictures from the internet for a side-by-side. The unit on the left is an actual Mitsubishi. The unit on the right is the same unit keviekev70 found - a YMGI unit restickered and rebadged to pose as a Mitsubishi.
Several distinct differences:
- The YMGI has the multiple line set ports built through the cabinet (for up to four zones). The Mitsubishi requires a separate multi-port adapter module.
- The actual Mitsubishi has their data sticker plainly affixed on the front in the lower-right corner. The imposter that keviekev70 found has its counterfeit sticker up on the side.
- The insides are much different. Keviekev70's imposter has four separate compressors. I think the Mitsubishi only has one compressor.
- The head units have similarly subtle differences.
I am not aware that we have a fraud dept. We do however have a legal dept that would look to do everything in their power to keep this from happening again and to help the homeowner recoupe their losses. But we would need to find this person first. As far as giving the homeowners new equipment. I believe that would be stretching it. Situations like this are extremely difficult. It is hard to tell a person that someone basically stole their hard earned money, and the importance of verifying a contractor is who they say they are. Asking for Contractor Licences and proof of insurance as well any training certificates is something that all LEGITIMATE contractors should be talking about from the moment they first speak with a homeowner. This would help educate them so that they ask for it from the next contractor. There are also enough people out there that are willing to hire someone without these to get the lowest installation price and often times that's when situations like these occur. I do not know the homeowner or how they came to this installer, so I cannot speak as to their motives. As much as most people would like for us to give the person a new system I just dont believe that can happen. Gucci and Nike are NOT held responsible when people buy knockoffs of their goods either. I do know that we have offered to special price New Mitsubishi Equipment to help homeowners out in past for these situations and would do that again.
that's a great quick comparisson Ectofix. I am sure that far more differces would be found if even a basic side by side were conducted comparing submittals, specifications and energy usage.
MitsuMark you're with ABCO?
Thanks. I think this about as SHAMEFUL of a post as I 've ever seen on the WALL OF SHAME.
Here's a few scaled down copies of keviekev70's original photos of the condenser he found. Notice the similarities between it and the YGMI unit from my photo in post #54:
Here's another of his original photos. The evaporator:
Here's a comparison of an actual Mitsubishi evaporator and and the YGMI version like keviekev70 found:
I don't think it's YMGI. It's very horrible in operation the indoor units blows very loud even on low speed.
I think it's some black market shipment from china smuggle in the USA like the fake R-22 on the black market.
Since there are 4 compressors then is there 4 circuits in the condenser?
