How to set water flow to humidifier?

I have a Carrier humidifier. I believe they are made by April Air. What is the proper way to set the flow level to the humidifier? Should the water valve that supplies the humidifier be wide open etc. thanks

Experiment and see what works best.

Flow through humidifiers waste a lot of water with the valve completely open.

What about the orifice? Does it reduce flow rate?

Ron; this was answered by "Senior Tech'' two posts back.

Are you having a problem with the humidifier?

The orifice is a metering device, turn the valve open all the way and then turn back 1/4 of a turn.

I've got one with a fan that blows over a wet grid. I have it set so that it just barely trickles out the waste tube. It humidifies fine.

Can you guys think of any downside to doing it this way? (more scale buildup, etc) It seems ok so far.
