Condo board tells people to buy Trane

or Amer Std, to avoid the copper theft problem. They sent a letter to all owners in all three buildings.
Anyone else seen such a recommendation?
Are the copper coil using companies seeing copper (coil) theft as a problem or just more sales?

We have had the Trane units stolen as well. don't seem to matter around here. Some contractors around here are thinking about giving them ( thieves) some copper jacketed lead for free.

Copper is being stolen around here as well but has calmed down. Mainly not from A/C units but from natural gas lines. Yes here in Minnesota it is up to code to use copper for natural gas lines from meter to all appliances in house. It is very common here. seldom do I see black pipe ran here anymore. Couple houses burned down in past from no one shutting gas off while stealing copper out of empty houses.

People will steal anything if they can make money off it. It just seems that copper is easy. Its used in a lot of stuff and easy to get to. Its also easy to get rid of.

Never seen a recomendation like that though. Tranes have aluminum coils. But they are still stolen. It doesn't matter what you get, if someone wants it that bad, they will take it.

Someone posted a funny picture on the wall of shame a year or 2 ago.
It was a commercial place with a variety of brands of split systems.
All of them had the coils stolen out of them, except the AS/Trane units. lol
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Doesn't that send the message to people that Trane and A/S aren't worth as much as other brands?

Doesn't that send the message to people that Trane and A/S aren't worth as much as other brands? Funny stuff.... Hey, anybody know why carryer quit making units with the spinefin outdoor coil? heard something about them taking advantage of the situation when Trane acquired GM HVAC division? Trane was buying GM HVAC , how did carryer obtain Spinefin material? No deception involved hopefully Never hear blue guys talk about it....why? Oh yeah " It's Hard To Stop A TRANE " Ask about the SEET Lab in Tyler, TX

Yea, there's a building down in the hood along the main drag. Place has/had 4 outdoor units, 3 are stripped. Guess the thieves were smart enough to know the 4th Carrier had aluminum coil!

Sounds like some slick salesman got to the board with their sales pitch.
