    OK, here's a loaded question....

Let's say I have a 31/2 ton plus a 5 ton split carrier. (2) systems, about 9 years old. I would guess the SEER rating to be maybe 11-12? I want a quote on changing them out to 16 SEER. I want Sears Home Improvement to do the job. it's gonna be EXPENSIVE.
Sears is a good company, but how can I justify going to an Infinity for the amount of energy saving Vs cost? Is there more than meets the eye? (not for using Sears but for doing the change-out) The current unit works.
Load me up with reasons to do this.

Why are you using Sears? You replacing your dishwasher too? Get several estimates from several companies.

As far as replacing a 9 year old unit, Go with what you want. My theory.....If it Aint Broke, Don't fix it!

Sears, last I knew, used sub-contractors. I would be very sure if you choose them that you scrutinize the installing company closely.

As far as the infinity goe's I'll let someone who is more familiar with them explain it....I'm sure they'll be along shortly

I've seen far too many Sears sub installs in my career as a tech rep.
Perhaps you should have read the instructions before calling.

Sorry dasgootch I am not commenting on this cause I know the truth and I will not say why they are asking why sears home improvement. I am a subcontractor for sears and I get pretty high ratings from their customers. Good thing about sears I can do my own thing also just not committed to sears alone. So I will let everyone else take a crack at it twili will say replace with coleman anyways. LOL.

Research the contrctor by asking for refferals to jobs that have like equipment. Call the customers if possible and ask them how there experiance was with the sub. Happy people don't lie.

Thats a good suggestion. You can never jump into a decision like replacing a system. Its a lot of money that is an investment, not an expense. So get referrals, research the subs, and base your decision accordingly. I'm not gonna say that Sears is bad....It all depends on the Sub really. I just wouldn't go straight to Sears. I would check with the locals first cause its probably cheaper and you may get a better price and have the work done by the same contractor as Sears would hire to do the work.

And if the system breaks down in , say, 5 years and the subs nowhere to be found? Will Carrier tell me it was installed wrong?
