Comparison of options

Hello, I have a 31 year old whirlpool forced hot air furnace I am looking to replace. It works well, but the bills have been high. I have found 2 reputable installers and need held in decyphering the two quotes. I am located in Northern CT and want an efficient furnace as I plan to be in this house for the next 30 years.

A. Edit out the prices, no prices allowed by site rules. If you don't, a mod will.

B. With out the mod numbers of the Amana, can't make a good comparison.

The Trane Furnace comes with a warranty on the heat exchanger. And the TCON 803 is a touchscreen thermostat. Where as the Amana just says digital thermostat.

I work for a Trane dealer in NC and as far as I'm concerned, Trane is a better brand equipment. I say this because your more likely to get service techs that have been to Trane specific schooling. I have.

But as for Amana, I don't know too much about them. I have worked on them and the Trane seems to be more Service Tech friendly.

Thanks for your info. I have heard mixed information on the Goodman/Amana and good info on the American Standard/Trane. As far as the warranties, I like the idea of a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger.

Do you know for the Trane, if both primary and secondary heat exchangers are stainless steel?

I went with the Trane, and a highly recommended installer. Planned installation is Friday!
Also, the dealer informed me that he should have quoted the 100K BTU based on his calculations and that he'd sell me that one for the same price. He also convinced me to get the Trane Humidifier as well.

Good move, you weren't comparing like products. The XV95 has the variable speed blower, the AMH doesn't. Also the AMH can't use a 2 stage thermostat so you wouldn't have the benefit of long run cycles on low in bitter weather. The XV95 is a nice furnace.

Trane is a 80% furnace not two stage and Amana is a 95% effecient two stage.

2 indicates 2 stage

Only thing I'd do is ditch the 803 and put on a Vision Pro IAQ and hook up dehumidify on demand.
