Scroll compressors are good, but it doesn't take a whole lot to kill them.
Maybe it's just me, but flood back, short cycling, overheating, and running in a vacuum seem to reek more havoc with a scroll than a they would with a reciprocating comp.
Maybe it's just me too, but quiet cube ice machine compressors seem to fail more often than traditional ice machines.
Right off the top of my head, I can think of 4 quiet cube compressors that have grounded out in the past few years, plus one that was inefficient.
I can only remember two compressor failures in traditional machines - one locked rotor and one that was inefficient. Plus the traditional machines outnumber the quiet cubers.
