Temperature Control Sticking
We have been having problems with two different walkin coolers getting too cold. What is happening is that the temperature controls are sticking closed. I have replaced the temperature controls twice on one of the boxes and once on the other. The control was set to 45 on one of the boxes, but the box was 15 with the condensing unit still running. All I had to do is tap on the temperature control, and the condensing unit shuts down. They will work fine for a few days then do it again.
There is very little amp draw through the controls all they are switching are the liquid line solenoids.
The controls are "White Rogers 201-20".
Has anyone had a similar problem with these temperature controls? We are thinking maybe we just got a hold of a bad batch.
Thanks

did you check with your volt metere across the terminals to make sure its was still closed and the solenoid or something isnt leaking by causeing the condensing unit to keep running... If the stat simply wont open id replace it with a ranco Electronic temp contro (ETC).. Then just set it and forget it, they work great cause they also act as a thermoter.. The only down side is you have to pull a common wire to it to power the display... latly in coolers i have been spending the time to pull 2 extra wires L1, and L2 from the incomming power to the fans or evap, that way when u get joe duma$$ that shuts the fans off the stat will lose power and pump the unit down and save you changing a compressor.. Johnson controls also makes a digital t stat its the 419.. good luck

Thanks for the tips and info.
The thermostats are mounted to the aluminum wall of the walkin with a couple zip screws.
I haven't yet checked one of them with a volt meter when it was stuck, but I'm certain the thermostat is causing the problem because if I tap it the condensing unit will pump down and shut off.
I like the Ranco ETC thermostats, we don't have them on any of are coolers yet, but they are used on a few of our Vogt Tube Ice machines as bin-stats.
Keep the info coming guys !

I believe that depending on the surface mounted the thermostat may be tweaked out of position causing problems.

That's what I was thinking but I find The White Rodgers controls sticking too. If I take all but one screw out it still comes back. I don't think they are as reliable as others but I like the control knob for cut in and out and they give you many knockout choices too. Guess you take the good with the bad
For big bucks I love the electronic controls. I've had very good luck with the Ranco. It is easy to set and you can lock it out from the cooks

It turned out we had one of the electronic Rancos in stock for the Vogt ice machines. So I installed it in one of the walkins, I'll see what happens.
The strange thing is we called Southern refrigeration to order a couple more of the Ranco ETC stats, and they are actually quite a bit cheaper than the White Rogers stats.

Thats the way it is here, i get the etc controls for about 20 bucks less then white rodgers or johnson controls turn stats, i keep and etc 111-000 on the truck at all times i refuse to install the old fasion stats unless its gonna take a ton of time to pull wires to power them.. They save service calls when u get people that like to PLAY with the stats as theres a lock feature on the stat
