    propane fired furnace smoking black

I recently purchased a used furnace from my hvac contractor. He converted the burner from gas to propane. The furnace ran fine, but was smoking black out the stack. He came back, took out the baffles on the burners, and said now it is fine. The thing is still not burning clean,it uses an excesive amout of fuel. The contractor tells me that the furnace is working properly. Can anyone advise me?

nobody can advise you here, because we are not allowed to offer do it yourself help. Working with propane is dangerous! If the dude that set it up for you is not solving the problem, then call in someone else to look at it for you.

Turn off the furnace. Turn off the gas. Call a qualified service company to repair. The last guy failed and left you in a dangerous situation. We would hate to hear about you on the news.

    Wrong orfices

It obvious the the guy that installed it and converted it dont know is orfice from a hole in the ground. I would strongly recomend that you have your Propane company go over the installation. On the brighter side its like a suicide bomber it will only go kaboom once.

It's obvious you didn't take the good advice offered.
Your contractor is dangerous and you are putting yourself and others at risk.
Shut that thing down and call a qualified tech.

It's hard for me to believe this contractor holds a valid lic. What does he do for X-mas hand out live grenades.

You can but i always get the wrong tone mixed up with the sound of a fire engine rushing to the scene of a house fire.

    Confused

Smoke!Smoke! You better buy a lottery ticket. Your lucky, If I had someone call me up and describe to me what just happened to you, I would still tell them to shut the furnace off. Did any body inspect the heat exhanger at least before it was put back in service? I agree with captube, call someone knowledgable.
