    Hi guys!

Hello all, in case you guyz havent figured it out, I'm an FNG to this forum as well as the HVAC/R field. I recently graduated from a 15 month program in Aug at a trade school and obtained my A.S. degree as well as my Universial Type license. Right after that my dad called me up and asked me to help run his gas station, which is in the middle of nowhere. I was hopefully gonna work at his station during the night and get an HVAC/R job during the day, but the closest place is 72 miles away and its snowy season here.
Anyway the only piece of refrigeration that I've been getting to look at is his Walk'In refrigerator. I notice that both of the evaporter coils are iced up. Well I thought I figured out the problem when I discovered pounds of lint on them after I de-iced them. Now one of the evaps is really starting to ice up again, and its just the one. So is that maybe a bad fan motor not circulating the air through the coils good enough? and I noticed that the fans are all running at the same speed, so low on refrigerant?
This question is prolly elementry to you guys, so thats why I gave such a long introduction so you know where I'm coming from. But HEY thats why I named myself FNG.

first of all welcome, second, when you deiced the coils did you make sure to throughly clean them, you should be able to shine a light from the backside of the coil and see light from the front, this is with the system off and the fans not running. will need more detail on this, how many fans is the coil have, is ice building on one side or the other?

There could be a problem with the coil that is not icing now, a problem with the coil that is icing right away, problems with both or a system problem just affecting the one coil first. Like chiily said first clear ALL ice (even behind the side panels) before you start looking for something. Are you using calibrated finger tips for temp. readings and wet fingers tips for voltage readings or do you have any good tools yet?

First, we need to train you on the lingo - it's a walk-in cooler not a refrigerator

You will find it beneficial to find out what type of defrost this system incorporates........pressure initiated/pressure terminated, temperature initiated/temperature terminated, time initiated/time terminated, or any combination of the above. Just a FYI, most single compressor remote systems such as the one you are working on are set up as time initiated/time terminated defrost.

After you determine the type of defrost, you may want to run a test in order to make sure the defrost is working as it should

It may be a good idea to check the system pressures and determine your superheat reading.

Like was said earlier, make sure that coil is clean.....including the fan blades.

Welcome to the trade...........and to the site. Good to have you aboard

    Thumbs up

Cool guyz thanks for the fast responses.
And Yes I dont have a few tools; guages, service wrench, flair kit, and a meter that can read temp as well.
I will get the SC and SH tomarrow.
    Thanks again!

K I almost got the SH but I forgot my PT chart. the Low side was 60 psi and the temp leaving one of the evaps was 41 degrees.
Anyone know where I can find a chart online? i've been looking but can't find anything.
    Thanks

401a is not on my g... Everyone that graduated and wasnt already in the field say it was definetly 15months of crap, definetly wouldnt do it over. Im still trying to make something of it. I mean I havent touched anything to do with HVAC in 4 months and I definetly feel like I forgot a lot of things.
I was hoping to learn somethings from this site, but if everyone's just a bunch of knowitalljerks then I will figure something else out.
    Thanks
