possible job change - want opinions
Lets suppose a tech was getting burnt out at his current company and was offered a management job at a local supply house. This individual has plans to get a contractors license and wishes to do after hours work legitimately. The job at local supplier requires no on call, only 1 saturday a month, and a 40 hour work week. The current contractor he is working for has no problems with him getting a license, but he cant figure out how to build a customer base because the company is extremely demanding during busy season. Pay is relatively the same on both jobs, he will lose some benefits, but the major stuff like health and paid vacation we be offered at new job. The supply house owner doesnt care if he gets his license and does after hour work as long as it doesnt effect the job he was hired to perform. This tech has no supply house experience, but the owner of the supply house knows this and is willing to work with this person becuase they really like the individual. What would you do? This person has a secure job right now but he finds it hard to develope his future at current position. The new job is scary because it is unknown territory.
any opinions?

Ya Im questioning what this supply house sells.
I wont even try competing against employees for supply houses doing the same thing I do. If they are taking work away from me , I would drop the supplier.
I dont buy that it will fly, just like employees I have had that were working on the side .......... It wasnt even HVAC. I told them up front I didnt care as long as it didnt afect his performance with me.
2- weeks later I told him that he was showing up too tired and stressed out. His performance was going down hill, straighten up or your night job will be your only job as far as Im concerned.
He bagged the second job, even tho it was a business that he thought he might be able to go another direction and be in business for himself.
Ya I know some will say they can do what they want on their own time , YA THATS RIGHT .......... if it doesnt afect what you do ON MY TIME.
