klein meter. wont read low amps

does anyone else have issues with klein meter not reading below 0.4amps
i get .3amps sometimes but most of the times it reads 0.00

it a year and half old klein cl2100 ive change the battery
and compare it to the other techs fluke and fieldpiece and they can read below .3amps just find.

if anyone have any advice on fixing this issue it be greatly appreciated.

I would personally just go with a Fluke or Fieldpiece and chalk that up to a loss. Sounds like an issue with their algorithm, or it just isn't sensitive enough.

why are you needing to read that low? i never had. the text book has shown that you could make amplifier for it in the field. just loop a piece of wire for ten loops around the cable you would like to get a reading and it should amplify the reading, then you divided it by the amount of loop to get true reading. I never tried it my self.
Have tools and gauges, will travel.

Perfectly valid. I used that method for years to read furnace control circuit load in order to set the heat anticipator on thermostats.

I just had the same problem with the same meter. I was checking if a crankcase heater was working without risking burnt fingers. It used to read that low.

Going to make it a backup meter and get a new FP. I no longer trust it.

Just as a reminder, clamp meters are supposed to have the conductor located in the middle of the clamp for accurate readings.

Just buy a fluke then you won't have to worry about.

Its a amp clamp, not a ma clamp, the fieldpiece and fluke amp clamps are no better than the klein meter.

What blitz said is accurate. My instructors in school mentioned this method. I've never used it personally but it's logged in the mental tool bag. Wanted to mention it once I saw the thread title but blitz already has.
