I always though most Tranes from the 70's were boxy squat green monsters.

See, Tranes of the 70s WERE boxy green industrial looking things. So Trane came out with a couple of classy looking units to better attract homeowners. These units were BEFORE the GE buyout. Then they went away and Trane put their name on boxy green industrial looking GE's

Now the residential GE units were beige weren't they? The standards got a wire dome shaped fan grill, the deluxe had a white flat wire grill, and the executive had kinda a plastic looking top on it. Right?

There are probably a hundred or so old GE's still running a little north of where I live. I could take pictures of them all day long.

That's true, GE were beige but they turned to green shortly after the Trane purchase. The Executives did have the Lexan (another GE product) top. Those were tanks. We're seeing an increasing number of late model Tranes in the scrap pile. The legendary Climatuff doesn't hold up like the oldies.
