    Set up of VS furnace

If a given furnace has a temperature rise of say 30 - 70 degrees, does the fan (VS) vary +/- from its 'set' speed to keep the temperature in that range? Except when starting cold, is the temperature maintained fairly constant?

If the above assumptions are correct, can the fan set speed be adjusted lower to maintain the temperature near the upper end of the range?

So basically, is the ecm is just ramping up and down between stages and 'off'?

    Yep.

In heating mode, it basically does 2 speeds, that you will notice.
It will increase its speed as you filter loads up to maintain air flow. But you won't notice it doing that untill the air filter is long past the point it should have been changed.
