Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician
I will be attending Algonquin College in Ottawa ON this January and I need to find out what tools I will be needing and what books I will need so I can purchase them ahead of time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

A good smoke injector can repair lots of electrical parts.

JK, previous post is a good bet.

I hear (this is no bul#*t) they are going to make circuit boards more interchangeable and you will have a hand held tester that will display the defective board circuit and will give you a wire diagram on how to repair or bypass the fault in the field with parts from radio shack (we will also have flying cars)
Its agreat itme to be getting started

Tools
1. Manifold gauge set
2. Service valve wrench
3. Hand tools (i.e. screwdrivers, crescent wrenches, diagonals, wire
strippers, etc.)
4. The telephone number of a good pyschiatrist- you're gonna need one

They'll tell you what tools you'll need. I have been doing this for over 20 years and still am buying different tools.

If your serious about this trade, go to the local supply house and ask for every tool they carry. It will cost about $13,000.00 Not a guess. I had a truck broke into a few years back and that is what it cost just for all the tools! Just a thought.
It's what you do that defines you.

Ask your instructor for the tool list.
A word of caution is buy quality tools.
35.00 $ ( or more in the North) may seem like a lot for those pliers but they'll last and you can count on them to perform;I'll get off the soap box on that.
One other thing is buy a good pair of quality saftey glasses.
Get some that look good enough so you'll wear and maybe are sunglasses if you need them. Remember comfortable gloves and boots too.
Try to get familiar with the industry, read a lot you won't understand it all, don't worry about that, none of us do. just get an overall feel for what is going on. Here is a mass of links that will keep you very busy:

Lastly your positive attitude and some initiative will get you far good luck in your studies.Quote
