Go get you a 6 or 7 cfm JB Platinum pump. Not the cheapest but they are good durable pumps.
I'm in the market for a quality vacuum pump for my personal use, (side work ect), and will be paying for it myself. I've been looking at some options and found that there's a wide selection with prices to match. Does anyone have any personal experiences with brands such as Robinair, CPS, Appion and Bacharach? As well as yellow jacket. Is one brand better than another in regards to performance, and warranty? Are the higher priced pumps worth the extra money if there comparable Cfm and two stage?

I found a good deal on a barely used JB platinum, been happy with it so far(had it for about 2 years). I would love to try out the appion TEZ 8 but that's a lot of money.
My vote is for the JB Platinum. Bought one last year for side work and it works great. More compact then a YJ aswell

The suppliers here have been pushing cps pumps and so that is what we have been getting. Not a big fan though. They can be slow at times and the oil has to be changed almost everytime they are used. That's been our experience with them.
For 5 tons and under a 2 cfm pump is the way to go. Light weight and less expensive. 5 cfm or larger is more than you really need for resi.
I miss you mom and dad.
While it is probably the most expensive... I have used the Appion TEZ8 for years and think it is king!
Having said that... prior to Appion the RobinAir I used to carry was the most durable pump I had.
The YJ pumps seemed to fail the most.
Never owned a JB, so cannot comment on those.

The suppliers around here have been pushing CPS and YJ. From word of mouth the CPS have had issues with performance and customer service. The YJ's are twice the price so I'm thinking there has to be a better value out there. The JB brand seems to be highly rated among people in the field but I personally have never seen them or found a place that sells them. The Robinair I have heard of and there on sale on amazon but I've never purchased a tool from amazon so I'm a little apprehensive to do so. Would anyone know where I could get a JB pump in southern Ontario? Or online?
Also the Appion is highly rated from what people have told me and what I've read but the cost is do high that even if I wanted one I could hardly justify it for personal use, but I of want it lol
A 5 cfm red robinair should do what you need for a fair price. Never had a problem with Amazon, but I would recommend Truetech tools.
Thanks. I think the robinair is probably what I will go with. The price seems right and people seem to like there cost/performance. Lytning you mentioned a "red" robinair. Is there a difference between the red and blue versions? Other than colour obviously, or is it just a casing and preference?
Thanks. That's good to know.
Harbor freight has a nice pump for $89.
I have the blue Robinair and would highly recommend it.

Thanks for the help. Space racer, The link you gave was very helpful, especially the other link at the bottom of that thread to Appion website. Very informative. I have decided on a blue robinair 5 Cfm two stage. Gas great reviews and the price is good. I would have even gone for a smaller Cfm but hope to get into some commercial work shortly ( outside of regular employment), and the extra Cfm may be useful. Thanks again guys. These forums have been really useful to me and the help from members such as your selfs have been invaluable. Cheers
