Need help with Trane VariTrac II
Hello, I am new to the site. The site I work at has 31 RTU's(all Trane) spread out over 3 buildings. Only 3 of them have the Trane VariTrac II. I finally got the cable to talk to these units.
I was wanting to know if anyone would know if there was a manuel for showing how to edit the programming with the hyperterminal. I did get it to change but I want to make sure I right.
Thanks

I used to work with that stuff years ago. I am going from memory now.
I am a little confused. The Trane VariTrac II is a changeover bypass zoning system. Are you trying to connect to the zone dampers (boxes) or the Rooftops. If it is a newer install there should be a Central Control Panel (CCP). If it is an older generation it might have a Comfort Manager.
The boxes should have a Unit Control Module (UCM). I believe the newer version is 4, if it is from the early 1990’s era it might be UCM 3.
The older system used a Tim-E or Honeywell W793 to interface to the RTU.
On the older ones if you want to do a direct connect (RS232) using terminal emulation you need an RJ-12 cable, a couple of 9/25 pin adaptors and a laptop or CRT.
What manual do you want the Comfort Manager, CCP, or UCM?

Sound to me like he is looking for the CCP manual. In order to get the correct manual, you need to tell us if the controller you are connecting to has an RJ11 port or an RS232 port??

Would this be similar to connecting to a tracker system using hyperterminal? If it is, I would like to get some info on connecting, I have the cable from upcmedit that I believe is needed. The customer asked me about this but there hasn't been an emergency yet. Any info would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure they are the same.
I think the UPCM and the Tracker controller use the following for direct connect RS232;
(1) RJ12 Cable - Trane P/N 3591-4260
(1) DB9 Female to RJ12 connector - Trane P/N 3591-4262
(1) DB25 Female to RJ12 connector - Trane P/N 3591-4263
I have never connected to the newer Tracker, so I am not sure if it is the same.

The cable is correct as above for the older systems. The newer systems ccp3 and 4 use an rj11 to comm cable and different software. The older version uses hyperterminal or Trane BMN, the newer versions use Varitrac V12 Software.
On the older version, Connect to the controller, and make sure your baud rate is correct for the version you have. The commands are then (m)=menu or to back up a screen, (s)=select, (l)=List. From any screen a command of 9then m will back you up all the way to the home screen.
On the newer versions using the varitrac V12 Software, Connect using the comm to RJ11 cable. Open the software and configure the comm port. It will then automatically connect, and give you a tree on the left, and graphic and data on the right.
