Meat grinder
Any of you grind your own meat? For sausage, jerkey, etc? I just looked at a hand turner for $44. at the kitchen store. I'm thinkin electric.

I've got a hand grinder but haven't used it latley. Used to use it all the time to make my own ham salad and lunch meat spread.

I bought a hand one at an antique store for $8. I'll see if I like it, then get an electric at Cabellas someday.

You should have an electric one. You don't need a commercial one. I got one I had for years and it cost around $60 bucks. But most of the time when you get into grinding it is a big project and the hand gets tired quick.

I grind left over ham, or chicken for salad sandwiches. Stuff clams is also another one of my specialites. Once in a while I make sauage if I get deer meat or there is a special on pork.

Well, the hand one was quite a sucsess last night. My kid left 35 dove breasts in my fridge Monday eve. and went to college. I cut the meat off, ground it, [4 yr old did all the cranking and LOVED it! Tender meat, easy to grind] then seasoned it, and made jerkey. Now I can give um back to him.

Hobart 110v .5hp weight 150lbs way over kill and grinds bambi like the wind. Wouldn't trade my craigslist find for any other. I have dealt with cheaper house hold grinders and they work ok for small batches ie. brats, jerky, but keep the plates sharp or the meat tears and makes mush quick. If you have a kitchen aid mixer the little meat grinder attachment works well for jerky or small batch. I like to grind most of deer and leave the loin for steak. Almost time again to fill freezer.
