Trane Quote
I have a rental property (townhouse) that is 3 stories and is seven years old and my Goodman A/C recently died. I just received this quote and I have a couple of questions? Here is the quote
13 SEER TRANE R22 with cased coil system includes:
TRANE condenser 2TTB3042B1000
TRANE cased coil 2TXCB042BC3HCA or equivalent
pad, disconnnect, whip, and Honeywell FocusPRO 5000 non-progammable thermostat
Warranty 5 year compressor, 5 year outdoor coil, 5 year parts and 1 year labor
Here are my questions and concerns:
1) Does this sound like a good system; would it be worth it to upgrade to a 14 SEER, how much price diffential should I expect to move to a 14 SEER System?
2) I noticed that the system was Energy Star rated. Is it worth it to move up to a Energy Star rated unit?
3) I've read that their is a new refrigerant being used. Is it worth it to move to that new system.
I would hope that this system lasts longer than 7 years as I remember growing up in a home and my parents didn't change their system in the whole time that I lived there. Is this too much to expect these days. Thanks for the attention!!

Builder unit, will do the job if properly installed. Won't do you any good to go up in Trane's line, you can't get 14 SEER without variable speed indoor. If you want 14 SEER, choose another brand.

you can buy an extended 10 year parts and labor warranty for Trane systems. Not cheap, but a very good value. I don't think it makes sense to go for higher efficiency equipment if the tennant is paying the operating costs.

less than half the cost of replacing the compressor or one of the coils, less than what it costs to do just about any repair that requires opening the refrigerant system. It's not free, its usually and add-on, but it is well worth the cost if you will be owning the property for longer than just a year or two. Sorry, can't discuss pricing here, so I can't post $$$ amounts.

Before just replacing your dead A/C. Find out why it died, or you could end up in the same situation 7 years down the road.
