Career Oppurtunity, Let me know what you think...
Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted but am relying on a lot of insight from others to help me with this decision.
I am 20 years old and have been working on a job for a couple months now. Johnson Controls recently installed there Metasys building management system and have been talking to me too. The JCI employee, 'Warren', has seemed interested in me since the beginning. I helped him a little bit with the system currently in place which will most likely get REplaced by Metasys.
Today I confirmed that JCI is interested in me because Warren confirmed it. I gave him my card and will tell him tommorow that I would like to sit down with Johnson and talk about some questions I have, the usual ones about any new oppurtunity.
The questions I have for you fellow techs. and readers are a less routine (for me to be asking at least).
Does anyone have any bad WORK experiences with Johnson Controls?
Does anyone know how easy it would be to move around out of the US and out of state while maintaining the same career path in Johnson?
Does anyone have suggestions on how to tell they're biggest local competitor (my employer) that I am moving? If I decide to that is.
I want the down and dirty folks, I don't want to goto JCI's website and read about how great they are (every website does that about their OWN company, come on). And I don't want to hear how much someone hates Johnson because they just do or it replaced their old system.
I want to hear what Johnson would be able to do for me as an employer.
Let me have it folks.
Kudos,
tsolosmi

I plan on staying in controls for the foreseeable future. I love what I do and love being innovative. I love having the flexibility of presenting new ideas or at least my views on projects and taking on tasks myself. If this would conflict with a career at Johnson let me know in your reply.
Also, could someone explain the structure to me?
Thanks again.Last edited by tsolosmi; 08-28-2007 at 06:47 PM. Reason: My background info....

Yes, because their guys aint rushed. Not at all. Like the one who was driving in front of me yesterday. He stopped at every red light, then he'd stop at green ones, then he'd stop before he would turn, even into an alley. I coulda killed the slow bastard. He was working right down the alley from my shop and I was in a hurry to get back there. I nearly hit him every time he stopped for no reason.
My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill he gave me six months more.

because thye are union and thus in this neck of the woods that pays more.
you are no safer than elsewahre though - plently o politics abound at JCI and the mgrs can make or break a local branch.
being in DDC/controls will keep you employeed no matter where you go but it is not cut and dried at JCI
be care4full about getting smoke blown up yer butt by them though

ahhhh I stand corrected I too was talking about Johnson controls specificly.
I heard rumors they wanted to go union with the controls guys cause overall it was cheaper for the co to do so - no paid down time layoffs etc - I'm not sure of the rumor though
lots of changes since the york take over many people jockying for position still many corperate changes to be had and many casulties will result
I thinks its still not a stable place of employment for some for others no problemwww.vetopropac.com - The best tool bags on the market - The offical tool bag of choice by techs everywhere
