I had one about a month ago, the prep was god awful, they did upper also cause I was having acid reflux problems. don't remember anything on the upper, but woke up during the lower watched them take out 6 polips, he wants to repeat in a year. mix the stuff with chicken broth makes it better.

i had both too , watch that reflux as it can ruin your esophogus(hope that's spelled right) , i,m on nexium every day & no more heartburn ever.........Jack

Had mine about 2 months ago. Had lemon flavored prep. Tasted like Mountain Dew mixed with Mobil 1. Had the gastro doc and 5 nurses. He gave me some stuff to "relax" I was laying there watching the T.V. and they are talking about some movie. The screen started moving around and then I felt something cold The screen stopped moving and I watched the whole thing. I was the last patient on Friday so every one was anxious to leave. I had to fart before I could go. I took a while and then RIPPP! I got a standing ovation. Good thing I work at the hospital. Oh by the way, I was clean .

A few years ago i needed a procedure done myself. I called several doctors and kept getting prices like 1500.00 2500.00 . Im thinking sheesh am i ever going to get this done?
I was telling my mom about it who is a 70 year old retired nurse. She said to call them back and tell them you have NO insurance. Im thinking, they arent going to feel sorry for me, NOT THE POINT AT ALL. Doctors hate insurance companies, they are a paperwork nightmare, they are time consuming and expensive to deal with.
I called back and asked prices for people without insurance,get this.
400 dollars up to 700 dollars. Less than half the price,it was then it was explained to me by one of the people at a doctors office that insurance compaines bleed the doctors and take up so much time its a constant ongoing negotiation.
Screw insurance companies, the ama and the drug companies.

I had to have one done and they saved my life. Beside the prep, which is tolerable, I don't remember the rest, except I felt better afterwards. I still feel good to this day.

I had one done last year, I can't remember how much the scope was, but the doctor asked me if I wanted a CAT scan also, I asked him how much it cost and he told me they would tell me at the hospital.

So when I got to the hospital and they gave me the contast ( nasty stuff you have to drink before the scan) they said that my share of the procedure was $140, so I paid them, they did the scan, them I got a bill from the hospital, for $8,800 for the scan, then I got a statement from the ins co saying that I would have to pay $1900 for the scan.

We are presently in a big fight with the hospital, as they can kiss my arse if they think I am paying them $1900 for an elective procedure that they told me was $140. I'm glad I paid the $140 at the time, as it helps my case. I talked to the county attorney, and he said that it was fraud, but they won't do anything unless it's over $100,000

so I only paid these guys 12 kilobucks and some of it must have gone to legitimate coverage. Fraud or not, I don't have a case. And you can almost never send one of these high-rolling CEO sociopaths to prison.

You could send them $100/month to show good faith. That's what I paid my hand surgeon (who charged $4000/hr and where the insurance company stiffed me $12,000).
If they send people by your house to beat you up you'll know they want some more!

Good Insurance it a must with Health care cost trust me. Thank God My wife job has great insurance. and from the time I was diagnosed with cancer in Mid July 2008 and being of Nov 2008 we meet our $2500 out of pocket. About their this year thank god for treatment being covered 100% when it $1000 a dose that $3000 a week every week for a year.

I had a physical two weeks ago. Updated my own information that my sister had polyps and a tumour in her colon a couple of years ago... They also gave her the added bonus of splitting open her spleen. That was because of a genetic thing and isn't normal...(I knew she wasn't anyway) She's now 55. They found 4 smaller polyps in my father 2 years ago at 80.

So it was suggested that I get one by my doctor, I'm 49. They had a cancellation at the endoscopy clinic, so I was in, if I wanted it... so I bit the bullet.

I've taken the last two days off work to do this thing knowing I should not have a rooftop blower section in pieces while doing the cleanse

So I get to the clinic, not really knowing what to expect, the first thing they said was "Well, at least the worst is over." "Really?" "Yup."

Anyway, long story short, they really seem to love their jobs, and I mean this: They were professional and put me at ease from the moment I entered the clinic. They prepped me, they wheeled me into the room, the anesthesiologist was talking to me the whole time telling me what he was doing and went something like "You'll feel a little sharp bee sting.. Okay, now I'm putting in the med..." ZZZzzzzzZZZzzz

20 minutes later I was coming to when they were wheeling me back to recovery and said not once, but twice, "I think I **** myself!" Actually, I used a nicer word, but I got my point across. The anesthesiologist pat my shoulder and said "Naw, you'll be okay." So true, it was just escaping gas.

They found one small polyp and cut it out. No big deal. No discomfort at all.

Seriously, this is truly, honestly no big deal and I had a good time while dealing with the endoscopy professionals. All people should get it done when their doctors think it is right for them. Everything up to the actual colonoscopy was ... we'll say... different... but not a big deal. Plan for it. Take two days off. The world will get along with out you after you're dead, so two days ain't gonna kill you... It might just save you.

Now, the most important thing: To all others on this site who have had it done, kudos and thank you for opening up about such private matters on this site and sharing. You played a large part in my decision to have it done because you were willing to talk of your experiences. My family is reserved and won't talk much. I knew my sister had had a problem, but really didn't know much until I needed her history... or my father's.

I had three polyps get snipped on the first one, and sent off to the lab for the pronouncement, "benign."

Clean for the second one.

And yeah, the prep the previous day is the fun part...

I had my first at a "learning" hospital. They gave me a couple of valium, then wheeled me into the room. Room contained the doc at about 5 students, ALL GOOD LOOKING 20 SOMETHING GIRLS. I was glad I had the Valium and wished I had more. Nothing like getting reamed out with that big...uh, you know... while lots of pretty girls watch. And the stuff they make you drink adds a few quality farts to the mix.
Next time, I'm going under. I don't want to know what happens.

Use a Testo boroscope... at least it has a better name ... and comes with a magnet just in case you find something

A colonoscopy saved my life. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in Dec of '08 at 44 years old.

Don't be a fool, wimp, or both. Get a colonoscopy.

I will be getting a follow-up colonoscopy in Dec of '09 to see if any cancer has returned, especially in the area where a segment of the colon was removed and then sewn back together.
