    Merv 8 vs. Merv 11

    Hi all!
I have a question about filters and Merv ratings.

I have been using a Merv 8 filter. The filter box installed actually holds a 4" filter not 5" which is more common to find. The only 4" filter I can find is a Merv 8 rating. (filter size is 20x24x4)

Here is my question...can I use 2 - 2" Merv 11 filters? This would also actually help me out in another way in that the filter box is in a tight area and it is challenging to jimmy in the 4" filter.

    Thanks for thoughts on this.

Bad idea. You double the pressure drop without really increasing efficiency.

A 4" deep filter is pretty common in commercial buildings. Look up filter companies in the yellow pages or on line.

Do a Google search for: "MERV 11 4 inch filters."

At the risk of shameless self-promotion go with the first hit.

If you order from them and have any problems, let me know.
