your resistance should add up as follows

    c to r + c to s = s to r

now you tell me its not my meter
once you think you've seen it all
    (THINK AGAIN)

Old rule of thumb. We teach that a measureable resistance across all terminals, with the start winding being the highest resistance. As long as it is not shorted to ground it should be good to go. Where did you get this compressor?

By impersonating a service tech and picking it up at the local wholesaler.

I don't like answering in this forum, but wtf is your question and how can you use the info given to cause any quandary? You state the obvious to any educated tech, are you any sort of tech? If you knew the nature of a compressor motor, you would see that you have answered your own question.
Sorry, don't mean to be a dik.

im hopping htis guy is not gonna put a new compressor on a 20 year old system. I am also hoping this system did not have a burnout. i am predicting the life of this new compressor to be short.

I have never checked a new compressor with a dmm. I would hope the
people at copeland who know what thay are doing would check the windings.
I suppose if you are buying a christmas gift this early w/o a gift receipt
    I can see your problem.
