Confused 404A to 408A temporary retro???

Have a 404a 3door reach in, scheduled to show up tonight, used last of 404 yesterday, system has a leak , evap. has been ordered. ? is, i have plenty of 408a, hardly ever use, would it hurt to pull a vac and recharge w/ 408 to prevent loss of product, until leak is fixed(replacement evap) oil is POE.

Yes it will work, may have to sightly close the TXV. 408 is fine with POE. I prefer 404 between the two though.

I'm not sure what the EPA would think about going "backwards" in a retrofit or if that is even an issue.

    K..

backwards engineering is an acceptable practice as long as the customer will honor the bill to save the product.

Who cares about the EPA not liking it... as long as you follow proper recover/reclaim procedures.. right?

    (you can kick me later)

I'm still waiting for an explanation of how you "reclaim" in the field since the process requires the refrigerant to be certified to ARI 700 standards.

Now you can kick me later....

    that's easy..

You stand on the edge of the roof, throw your hands in the air, lean your head back and shout... "I reclaim this high priced liquid gold in the name of George Bush Sr".

Then take the drum of recovered stuff and accidentally blow it off on the way back to the warehouse.

I beleive you can recover (removal of refrigerant) also you can reclaim (run refrigerant thru a filter dryer as to clean refrigerant in the process of removing refrigerant) you can't in the field recycle (certified to ARI 700 standards) I may be wrong, but I beleive this is right.

Recycle is recycling and reusing in the field. Reclaiming is where the refrigerant is restored to ARI 700 standards and certified as such, that's laboratory stuff.

Actually it's a common mistake to use the term "reclaim" as a generic word for recovery, I'm just anal about stuff like that.

Not a word out of you Lusker........
