Ran backwards
On so got a good one the other day.. Unit has been triping on high head and kicking out for a while.. Maunual reset. Havent been able to find the problem, condenser fan amped out, pulled charge, changed dryer, evac still problems.. Well this was a new one on me but i have heard others say it can happen.. Single phase conderser fan with cap running backwards intermitantly.. NOT freewheeling it was running.. Any one else got there a$$ kicked by that before.. Or have and explination on HOW it runs backwards

I just ran into the same problem on a WIC. Except it wasn't intermittent. My first attempt at a fix was to reverse the reversing leads. Didn't work.
So i replaced the motor. I really don't know what causes it. But I do know if the reversing leads are mixed up a motor will run forwards and then backwards at each power cycle. So maybe that has something to do with it like the wire insulation is melted away and you now have continuity between two wires that are not supposed to have it.
Just a guess maybe somebody know exactly what causes this.

Yes- especially on psc evap fans- I've had them lose the cap, then when the other evap fans start, they draw just enough air to get the bad one turning backwards, and it'll slowly come up to speed, just the wrong way- lots of wtf?? iced coils. All u need is a phase/magnet change- just like when you finger-start a condenser fan with a bad cap to get it going, try starting it in the opposite direction. Maybe breezy enough day to slowly get it turning backwards, then the cooling call comes?
