I just turned on my heat today for the first time this season (Bryant 577) and no heat is coming through the floor vents. Called a local contractor who said the variable speed blower motor and module are not operating properly. He shot a video of it and showed it to me to explain what's happening. He quoted about $-$ to replace it.
It was installed in July 2009 and should still be under warranty. The original contractor is no longer in business so I'm using someone I found thru Yelp whose reviews were mixed. Unfortunately I live in a small town and there aren't a lot of options with good reviews.
The guy today said they'd call Bryant but was skeptical that they'd honor the warranty and, even if they do, said the installation labor would be expensive. Given that they have a vested interest in it not being covered, I'm not sure how trusting - or skeptical - I should be.
Should I get a second opinion (at $-$ for the visit) or is this something that's likely to have gone bad already? Is this a reasonable quote? Could it be just the motor or controller rather than both?
I'm out of my element here - any advice is greatly appreciated!
