    I have never seen an inducer cap fail. I do know there is a little square cap in there though. I'd do the same thing in a pinch. I'm guessing that wasn't put on temporarily though.

    Happens all the time on fasco inducers.

    yup. removed the burnt out one and used the bracket to secure the run cap. Also cut down on the black tape by 90%
