wow...be careful on that one...
So I replaced a 208-230/460 1PH reversible motor this afternoon... After I was finished installing and wiring the motor I ran it to verify amperage and rotation.. Everything was fine.. I then realized that I forgot to ground the motor to the unit chassis (it has been a long week).. I removed call for fan and grabbed the ground wire to secure to chassis and noticed as I got it close to the chassis it would arc.. Voltage from motor ground wire/case to ground is around 130VAC.. Triple checked wiring and it is correct.. Did I get a motor that was not wound properly or are the wires possibly mislabeled? It's an AO Smith motor.. T1 - comes off L2 terminal block and T2 comes from NO contact on fan relay.. I'm confused..

Sounds like either a bad winding or one of the power leads is touching the body of the motor.
If power is touching, it has to be internal..
Megger it!
